Top Ten Questions For Choosing a Wedding Reception Venue

Top Ten Questions to Ask Yourself Before Choosing a Reception Venue

The venue where you choose to host your reception will play an integral part in the overall look and feel of your wedding. Ask yourself these 10 questions for every venue you're considering!

Top Ten Questions to Ask Yourself Before Choosing a Reception Venue1. What’s your impression of the manager?
If you don’t get along with the reception venue manager now, you won’t later and that could spoil your whole experience. First impressions count for a lot. If you feel you can’t trust and work with the person, move on.

2. Can you see your wedding ‘come to life’ here?
If the style of service or the mood of the place just doesn’t hit the right chords with you, they never will.

3. Will the space accommodate all your needs?
Guest count aside, if you’re choosing an unconventional site like a heritage property or an art gallery, assess whether the place will be able to handle the extra space needed for your caterer’s food prep area, the dance floor, etc.

4. Will guests be able to find it?
Don’t choose a spot that’s hard to find and harder to get to. You want your guests’ experience of your wedding day to be fun right from the start–that includes getting there.

5. Is it going to be crowded?
If the venue you’re looking at may have other weddings booked at the same time as yours, ask about how the management intends to keep each wedding personal and the service uncompromised.

6. Does the chef inspire you?
Ask about the chef’s background and any ideas he/she might have for your wedding reception. Food plays an important role in any festivity so don’t underestimate this aspect of your reception.

7. Will decorations or accessories be provided?
A lot of reception venues will offer a choice of colored table linens. Yours may offer even more options. Always ask.

8. What are the rules of the venue?
Some places have strict rules about music. Others can’t allow dancing. Make sure you know what the parameters are before making your final choice.

9. Does the place look clean and well maintained?
This may be a weirdly obvious question but a fancy interior design may stop you from noticing the shabby curtains and dirty restrooms. Take a good, hard look around.

10. Does it look great during the time I want to have my reception?
This may sound like a strange question but it’s actually pretty basic. If you’re planning an evening reception, take a good look around the site in the evening. It’s only then that you’ll know that the venue has the right lights, décor and mood for your reception.
